Realtor commissions are technically a negotiable cost for home owners looking to sell or buy a home. However, this does not mean that you will get the same service if you demand that your agent takes less than the going rate in your area. In most areas, agent commissions cost the seller between 5 and 7 per cent of the price of the home; if the home buyers have an agent, then both realtors split the commission.

Now house hunters can use the Internet to search all properties that match their needs and only need to contact a Realtor to view the properties they have chosen. Seemingly this would make the Realtor's job easier when in reality it has created new challenges for the agents.

There is no doubt that a great real estate agent will make the stressful process of buying or selling a home a good deal easier. And remember, there may be some relatively poor or uncommitted real estate agents out there, but there are only a few truly dishonest ones, so do your homework and make sure that you don't become their next client.

So I think that when you're looking for a realtor right now, you need to have a full-time realtor working for you, and if not, because again, I wasn't one in the very beginning... at least make sure that your realtor is accessible through the day for this very reason.
